I LOVE cables. Knitted cables are my absolute favorite. But there's no reason that crocheters can't get in on the cable party too! I knew that I wanted to include cables in my next hat design, but I didn't want to just use vertical cables. Been there, done that. Instead, I decided to place the cables horizontally around the brim, almost like a crown. With one of these hats, you're basically the (subtle) Queen of Crochet.
Who's ready for another fabulous Designer Spotlight?!? I'm super excited to share this week's spotlight with you all, featuring Maria of Maria's Blue Crayon. I've been seeing Maria's designs popping up all over the place lately, and for good reason! Her designs are the perfect combination of adorable details and simplicity. I'm predicting that she's going to be huge in the crochet world someday, so this is one blogger you'll definitely want to keep an eye on. So jump on the bandwagon early (if you haven't already) and learn more about what inspires her work and take a peek at some of her designs.
We may be in the midst of "pumpkin spice" season, but for me fall just isn't complete without some crisp, fresh apples. And after taking the kids apple picking at the farm, we always end up with way too many apples. Which means it's time to bake!
Confession: I'm not entirely sure what a cowl is, and at this point I don't know who to ask. The dictionary definition references monks, which clearly isn't the same thing we're talking about with modern winter wear. Looking at examples of patterns doesn't help me out either. Sometimes it seems like a cowl is a distinct piece (like a hood with shoulders), and other times it seems to be interchangeable with "infinity scarf." I mean, where is the line, people? So while I'm not 100% confident that is the ideal term for this pattern, I'm going to go with my gut on this one and call this a cowl. Either way, this new pattern is the newest addition to the "3 mL" family and goes great with the 3 mL Beanie, Slouchy Hat, and Messy Bun Beanie. So if you've been making one of the hats, now you can make a matching scarf-like-cowl(?) to go with it!
The other day I was crocheting (shocking, I know), and a thought occurred to me: I should crochet...yarn! Which might be crazy. But I think it's just crazy enough to work. So I designed myself a little yarn buddy! The construction was a bit tricky, so I designed a simpler version as well, and now I have two little yarn assistants. Their current job? Supervising my growing pile of unfinished crochet projects. I should probably finish some of those before I do anything else...but at least for now, I've finished up the pattern for this cute little yarn buddy so you can make an assistant of your own!
